- Training Framework: A three-tier CPD model includes universal (basic), enhanced (role-specific), and specialist training. Sessions range from ADHD strategies to emotional literacy support.
- Relational Approaches: Chris stressed embedding strategies like emotion coaching and zones of regulation into daily practice - not as "bolt-ons" but as integral to school culture.
Outcome: Teachers and staff feel confident and capable, fostering a whole-school approach where "every teacher is a teacher of SEND."
3. Collaborating with parents and agencies
Strong collaboration with families and external agencies was identified as vital for success.
- Parent Workshops: Introducing parents to strategies like the zones of regulation helps align school and home approaches, improving consistency for students.

- Sensory Rooms: Through grants, Outward Grange transformed unused spaces into sensory integration rooms, providing safe environments for students requiring specialised support.
- Flexible Spaces: For Key Stage 1 pupils, nurture rooms offer alternative curriculums tailored to developmental needs.
Outcome: These environments promote calm, focused learning and leave a lasting legacy for future students.
5. Sustaining impact with a growth mindset
Chris wrapped up with a crucial reminder: the work in SEND never ends. Continuous reflection, proactive problem-solving, and embedding SEND into the daily fabric of schools are essential.
